What is developmental orthodontics?
Dr. Gloeckner has straightened teeth and corrected bites for 36 years using his unique orthopedic experience known as developmental orthodontics. With developmental orthodontics, Dr. Gloeckner uses preventative treatment to help patients receive the treatment they need instead of having to wait until a certain age for more invasive procedures. Developmental orthodontics can treat patients when they are young to perfect their smile.
How long will the treatment take?
The amount of time that a treatment takes can vary greatly on the individual patient, the condition of the patient’s teeth, the oral health issue the patient is dealing with and the level of oral hygiene the patient keeps up at home. In other cases, the treatment may have stages that determine how long the treatment will take. Regardless of the treatment, Dr. Gloeckner will be able to determine the amount of time a treatment will take during a consultation.
Why not just pull teeth and get braces to straighten the other teeth in the mouth?
Pulling teeth can help to cause small jaws that can increase the likelihood of life-threatening disorders. We can work with the patient to create room for the permanent adult teeth without the use of tooth extractions. Dr. Gloeckner can help patients keep their natural teeth and have the necessary room in the mouth for a healthy set of teeth.
How is Dr. Gloeckner’s approach to treatment different from other locations?
Dr. Gloeckner focuses on the function of the push and pull of the soft tissue in the mouth. His approach includes an emphasis on breathing, chewing, swallowing and the function of the human bite. This approach also focuses on the effect oral health issues can have on the health in the rest of the body.
What is tongue thrusting and is it a problem?
Tongue thrusting is when the individual exhibits a habit of placing the tongue in the wrong position while swallowing. The constant pressure of the tongue will force the teeth and arches out of alignment. Tongue thrusting is an issue since it can lead to issues with a misaligned bite and sometimes affect speech in children. Fortunately, Dr. Gloeckner offers treatment methods to help with this issue, if necessary.
Is treatment going to be uncomfortable? Especially for children?
Dr. Gloeckner will do everything in his power to help the patient ease into treatment and limit the pain as much as possible. However, most orthodontic and orthopedic treatments will include a few days of slight discomfort while the individual adjusts to the treatment. The pain will dissipate after a few days after treatment. From that point on, the patient will no longer experience the large amounts of the discomfort that brought them to Dr. Gloeckner’s office in the first place.
How much will the treatment cost?
The cost of treatment will depend on the patient’s insurance coverage. We accept major forms of insurance, including Aetna, Adventist Health, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Cross of California, Blue Shield California Highway Patrol, California Correctional Peace Officer’s Insurance, Cigna, Delta Dental, Delta Care Guardian, Humana, Liberty, Lincoln, MetLife, Pacific Union Premier Access, Principal Financial, Sun Life, United Concordia, United Food and United Healthcare.
